Pictoplayers is a continually growing iconicity project that
was initiated by the artists Yan Breuleux and Kim Dotty
Hachmann in 2002. They both use pictoral language to
convey their ideas. After they met, they started communi-
cating by animated pictograms via internet in order to find
out where communication with pictograms can lead to.
The
basic idea is that signs receive and change their meaning
by the way how and in which context they are presented.
Pictoplayers benefits from the pictorial language in contrast
to the written word as pictograms convey a message not
limited to verbal language. This type of medium offers the
opportunity to interpret its content verbally in various ways.
Here the emphasis is much more on a shared world of ideas
rather than a shared language.
A global aspect appears as
this picture language can be interpreted by all the people of
the world.
